The Community Development is tasked with overseeing the city's comprehensive development plan, capital facilities plan, development regulations and standards. Community Development provides support staff to the Planning Commission which consists of five members of the community that are appointed by the Mayor for four year terms. The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations on all development standards and policies to the city council for adoption. The Planning Commission also reviews and makes recommendations on all new and upcoming developments to the the city council for their approval.
The building department of Community Development is managed by a Director and supported by the Clerk's Office and a Building Inspector. This sections does plan review and approval for all the city's permitting. The inspector inspects all the building and developments to make sure they meet code and design.
